(98) Days of Summer

At my tutorial my tutors advised me to try and keep some kind of visual diary where every day I do some kind of quick piece of design to help me quicken up my process. I've decided to do it in the form of a blog which I'll update every day with some kind of creation by me. I've been doing it just under a week and it's already proving really fun and I've got a couple of pieces I'm really proud out (especially the Loony Tunes inspired posters below) of it, so am looking forward to hopefully pushing it even further over the rest of the summer.

Books - The New Yorker Summer Fiction Issue

I used to be an ardent buyer of the new yorker, never missing and issue and always reading it cover to cover but now that university has overtaken my life I never really have the time to read it (or the money to afford it) any more so when I do buy it it's always a treat. An especially big treat is when the week I'm completely done with university for the summer the summer fiction issue comes out and it has a mesmerizingly beautiful and intricate cover by Chris Ware.

I've only really got round to reading a couple of the stories included, but as usual they are up to the extremely high standards I've come to expect. I especially love the new Jonathan Safran Foer story which was really arresting, it's grabs you and takes you on a journey through this really simple yet complex narrative system. I'm really looking forward to hopefully discovering some new authors and kickstarting my summer reading.

Mac Problems

been away from the internet for a while because of problems with my macbook. luckily managed to get it sorted without forking out any money and am slowly catching up with all the missed content, and trying my best to patch up 2 months worth of lost data.

Film Workshop - The End (Unfinnished)

Made this very short and unfinished piece for a film workshop the other day. It's purely an atmospheric piece trying to get across that sadness and comforting feeling i get from being in an empty park just at the end of the day. I'd really like to take it further and give it more of a narrative and possibly play with the sounds of the park more instead of relying on the music. (which is fractles prt. 2 by aparat incase you were wondering)

Music - Buke & Gāss - Outt!

Photography - Long Exposure

I got a tripod out yesturday for a film I'm shooting later for a workshop and decided to play around with it last night doing some long exposures, I can out with one photo I really quite like. Kind of sums up the way I interact with my room prety well really, I'm either asleep or sitting on my laptop.

Exhibition Piece - A collection of misfortune

There's only one more thing left before I officially have completed my first year at Kingston and that's our end of year exhibition. As a group we decided on the theme of fortune and misfortune and the exhibition is called (mis)fortune, half the group had to respond to fortune and have to misfortune, I got misfortune and decided to create a collection of misfortunes. I have done it in the style of taxonomy. I plan to do a few more but overall am pretty pleased with my idea, and think it sums up pretty well my progress conceptually since starting in september, which to be honest has been bloody huge.

Zine - A Gentlemans Guide to Gig Etiquette in collaboration with Kathryn Newman

The idea for this collaboration had been floating around inside our heads for a while. It spawned from going to see a band play at our local indie night club and being extremely annoyed by the behaviour of loads of extremely drunk students, who were obviously not aware of the proper way to act at a show. So we poured our anger into this with me (Adrian) doing the type treatment and Kathryn doing the collages. The song playing in the background is Punk as Fuck by The American Analog Set

Books - Zines from London Zine Symposium 2010

A bit delayed with this post, but well here's all the stuff I got at the Zine Symposium on Saturday. I would go through them all and right long winded review type things, but to be honest I cant really be bothered, they're all really good and worth checking out.
