Black Swan
Darren Aranofski hasn't made a film I don't like yet and it doesn't look like he's going to be letting me down with his net film, The Black Swan. Just found the trailer over on /film and it looks like he's making another really dark and atmospheric piece like his earlier works Pi, the trailer's really claustrophobic and un-nerving. It doesn't have a release date yet but hopefully should get her before the end of the year.
(just found the beautiful poster for this film as well and thought I'd add it to this post)

Some Music
Thought I'd do another post about some music I've been listening to lately because I enjoyed writing the last one. Think I might make this a regular thing.
Anamanaguchi - Airbrushed
Playing the Scott Pilgrim game has helped me re-discover Anamanaguchi. I'd actually not heard anything other than their Power Supply EP from 8 Bit People and after having a little catch up sesh I'm completely in love with them.
No Age - Glitter
Really love this new single from No Age, it's kind of a bit more chilled than most of their stuff but it stil has a really great fuzzy raw sound.
The Long Winters - Stupid
I used to really love The Long Winters when I was about 14 but I deleted them from my iTunes when I was going through my 'all indie pop is shit' stage, but i found them on a blog the other week and i have to say they are damn fine.
The Beatles - Girl
oooh giiiiiiiiiiirlll FFFFFFFFFFTT

Comic Diary July
Over the summer I've been trying to keep a kind of comic diary and I finally got round to scanning some of my favorites into a computer and rearranging them into a more pleasing format.
Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little World
I've been meaning to read the scott pilgrim books for a really long time and haven't because of the price of buying them all, and being extremely broke at the moment I stil haven't managed to buy them but with the release of the film later this month I decided it was time to just read them online (I will 100% definitely be purchasing them as soon as I get some cash) and I'v just devoured the first two volumes in a couple of hours. They're so much fun to read! They're kind of really silly, and the arts pretty much your standard manga influenced affair, it's far from terrible but it's hardly Chris Ware. But it's very VERY funny and has some brilliant action sequences and is really just top notch escapist fun.

Teux Deux
Being a completely useless and scatterbrained kind of person when it comes to remembering things I've been trying to find some kind of effective way to organise my thoughts for a while now, I've tried many an iPhone app and all kinds of non digital stuff but I never seen to stick with anything. But I saw TeuxDeux featured on a couple of blogs I really like this week and thought I'd give it a go. It's almost too good to be true, you often under estimate how useful just really really simple and things can be when they're extremely well designed, there are absolutely no unnecessary features with this thing, you add an item, you cross it off, that's it. But it's so satisfying, and after using it for about 3 days I can already feel it working. I might have finally found the app for me.

Radiolab & NPR Present Words
Radiolab believes your ears are a portal to another world. Where sound illuminates ideas, and the boundaries blur between science, philosophy, and human experience. Big questions are investigated, tinkered with, and encouraged to grow. Bring your curiosity, and we'll feed it with possibility.Radiolab is an american radioshow and podcast produced by WNYC that I became obsessed with after hearing one of their segments on This American Life (one of my favourite things in life) To accompany their latest podcast which is on the theme of words they made this amazing video which is just so rewarding. It took me about 3 views to finally fully get it and I don't want to explain it all here and ruin that thrill of discovery which I think is the whole point of the video.

Jimmy Corrigan Japanese Release
For the Japanese release of Chris Wares amazing Jimmy Corrigan Chris has done a whole host of beautiful new art for it. I don't care If I wouldn't be able to read them I really want the japanese volumes so much, their cover design is gorgeous.

The Haircut
I took loads of picture of Kathryn cutting her hair this afternoon and am really pleased with the outcome. For posting them here I decided to give them a bit of narrative so it kind of works as a photographic storyboard kind of thingy. Really wish I'd done this before the end of last term so I could have submitted it for the image & sequence brief.

The Books - A Cold Freezin' Night Music Video
I didn't really want to do any more music related posts for a while but I started listening to the new album from The Books yesterday and It's kind of been on constantly since.
The Museum of Bad Art
I just ame across the website for The Museum of Bad Art, They're an organisation that started in 1994 dedicated to collection, preservation, exhibition and celebration of bad art in all its forms and in all its glory. I absolutely love some of the paintings that they've got on their website, I only wish there were more, because I managed to browse through all the art on their site in about 20 minutes.

Matthew Dear Black City Totem
Matthew Dear's third full-length studio album called for something exceptional, something as challenging (and rewarding) as the music itself. Our newest label release format is more than a mere limited edition. The totem is a proposal, an entreaty to listeners everywhere to reconsider our relationship to music in the digital era.
This idea is the first instance I've seen of a record label that has actually succeeded in creating a piece of design that actually questions the notion of music in the digital era, instead of just trying to find some gimmick to make you actually physcially buying a reocrd, or just giving up on music as a physical entity Ghostly and Matthew Dear actually seem to be trying to question the whole thing and find a way for both things to work and it's bloody exciting. I wish I wasn't so broke at the moment so I could actually splash out on this. You can read more about the totem and see a gorgeous advert for the Black City album on Matthew's website.

Summer Music
Sleigh Bells - Infinity Guitars
I heard this song a couple of weeks ago and it blew my mind. I don't even know how to explain it it's genuinely like nothing I've ever heard.
Best Coast - When I'm With You
Not much to say about this either, just really simple and fun pop music.
Asei Kobayashi & Micky Yoshino - Cherries Were Made For Eating
I'm not really sure who the actual artist is for this brilliant little piece of japanese pop. But this is a song from the soundtrack to HAUSU, which is an amazingly bizarre and experimental Japanese horror/comedy film made in the 70's. (I posted a trailer for a couple of days ago)
Madvillain - Space Ho's (Coast to Coast)
Last but definitely not least the Madlib remix of Space Ho's which is probably my favourite song from Madvillainy 2
Posters - Advice for Design Students
I first did one of these posters for the 98 days of summer project I started and kind of gave up on and decided to try and create a couple more and turn it into a series. The idea for them stemmed from a list of adivce we were asked to write for 1st year design students starting on our course in September.
(Also I think I need to stop using that kind of green for all my designs...)
New Design
As you might have noticed I've finally got round to giving this blog a re-design. been really lackluster with posts lately, but have finally got my summer project through so shall be getting back into the flow of things again soon.
